Pay using your IRS Account (ID.me account required)

If you have an ID.me account, you can use it to easily pay any balances with the IRS.

What’s ID.me?

ID.me is a secure digital identity platform through which you can access tax information from the IRS including transcripts, or balances, or access other government services such as the Social Security administration or the Department of Veterans Affairs.

How to make an account

Creating your ID.me account involves verifying your ID, including uploading a scan of your identification and uploading a selfie or a short video call where you confirm your identity. Log in or create an account here.

How to make a payment using your account

1. Go to IRS.gov/payments and choose whether to pay individual tax or business tax (we are choosing individual for this guide.)

2. Click ‘Sign in or Create Account’ to sign into your IRS account through ID.me, or to create an account.

Creating your ID.me account involves verifying your ID, including uploading a scan of your identification and uploading a selfie or a short video call where you confirm your identity.

3. Choose to sign in or create your account on the following page.

4. Once you are logged in, click on the ‘Make a Payment’ button on the home page.

5. Select your payment type.

After you select the payment type, your will have a few more options about exactly what balance you are paying for and how much you want to pay.

6. Enter your bank details to pay directly through the website, or follow the link to the credit card payment website (other fees may apply)

7. On the next page, you will be prompted to confirm your payment and sign for it. After hitting next, you’ll reach the confirmation page. That’s it!
